Join us in making a tiny book in a box, using doubly-upcycled materials!
In this no-glue process, you will learn how to use the criss-cross (or Secret Belgian binding) technique to make a notebook from mount board offcuts in a whole variety of colourways, keeping it uni or mixing and matching, as you wish. You can further customise your book by stamping your name or a short phrase into the front cover using metal stamps.
Our books will slot into cases from Hi8 camcorder tapes (ca. A7) that have been diverted from landfill and are perfectly good. You will leave the workshop with a one-of-a kind treasure that is perfectly protected, upcycledx2 and ready to accompany you anywhere.
About the tutor
Ursula Pretsch is an Edinburgh-based artist printmaker and bookbinder. As a keen upcycler, she is always trying to find new ways to incorporate upcycled materials into her creative practice. By sharing her upcycled bookbinding approach in this workshop, Ursula wants to encourage more people to think creatively about how we can make beautiful things with materials we already have.
