In this beginner basket making session, Katie Warner will teach you how to create a small, round basket with a handle - perfect for berry picking. You will learn traditional basket making techniques, using willow grown in the Somerset Levels.
Katie, who works as a professional basket maker and teacher in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders, looks forward to introducing you to this beautifully sustainable craft. A basket can be made with just a few tools and a pair of hands. There are hundreds of willow varieties providing a vast array of natural colours without the need for chemicals. Katie will guide you through the deeply satisfying and meditative process of weaving your very own creation to take home and use for many years to come. Basketeers may sit or stand to work at table-top height.
All tools and materials provided. Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting scruffy.
Tea, coffee and homemade cakes will be provided to fuel your creativity! Lunch can either be purchased from the cafe next door or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.
Katie is a member of the Basketmakers' Association, Scottish Basketmakers' Circle and the Northumbria Basketry Group.
